I struggled over buying insurance, most things I read said if you could afford to
pay for the treatments and money was not a problem then Pet insurance was not for
you. December 2009 I adopted Bella a young border collie rescue dog. I decided after
reading about everything that is covered at least with teeth cleaning and routine
items that I would not really be risking too much so I went ahead and purchased
insurance for her "just in case". Bella is now 7 months old in the last 2 months
we have paid $6,377.60 in vet bills and Purina has paid us $4,911.49. The "Just
in case" has paid off big time. I simply fax the claims and usually within 2 weeks
I receive payment. I could not be happier with the service we have received so far.

I am so grateful I had this insurance. Our 7 yr old lab, Jake, was diagnosed with
stage 2 cancer in his right paw and through chemo we were able to treat it and he
is now healthy and strong. Every week we submitted our claim and we would promptly
receive an acknowledgement letter letting us know they would process it. After that
we would receive our part of our reimbursement promptly without any questions or
hassles. Jake is doing great and full of energy! I am happy to say that all is well
and in addition we have rescued a poodle and will soon be getting PurinaCare insurance
for him. I highly recommend PurinaCare for anyone with a pet.

It was a cold day in the mountains of southern California. A shooting range in a
small town called Lytle Creek. We were about to pay to get a lane when we saw a
group of playful pups. We asked the workers about them and they said the pups were
free to a good home. I had been looking for a dog for a while but didn't really
find any that had liked yet. I always wanted a Rhodesian ridgeback or a Rottweiler.
These pups had both in them. They were half Rhodesian and Pit and the other half
was Rottweiler and Labrador. This sounded great to me, the pups were all very good
looking and playful. Most of them were black, but there was two gold ones. We grabbed
the golden male and brought him to the truck. Being real cold that day and also
that fact that I was pretty excited, we left the range without even shooting that
day.
It took a couple of days to think of a good name for the pup. A name that was strong
sounding so the dog would hear very well because this pup was very lively and independent.
Being a fan of the TV show "Hogan's Heroes", I thought Schultz would be a good name
for this "character" of a dog.
I took Schultz to the vet and began his shots and healthcare. The vet suggested
pet insurance because of Schultz's size, every procedure would be more expensive
than it would for a smaller dog. I began shopping different available pet insurance
but nothing stood out to me, because all the companies seemed small and I had never
heard of any of them before.
I was then approached by a representative of Purina pet insurance named Gabe Silva.
He informed me that Purina was expanding their service to California and Schultz
could possibly be the first dog insured in my state. I thought this sounded great
because I knew the name Purina, and what pet owner didn't. I had faith in the name
and therefore decided to insure Schultz with Purinacare pet insurance. Purina had
made it real easy to sign up and I have felt better ever since.
Schultz is loved by all of our friends and family and we all feel safer with him
around. I figured the least I could do for him was to make sure he was well taken
care of.

Thank goodness for Purina Care Pet Insurance. About 10 years ago, one of our Golden
Retreivers, Cessna, had to have an ACL repair, needless to say that set my husband
and I back about $3000. At that time with our business, cash was abundant, and I
did not hesitate to schedule Cessna for the surgery, and have the added expense.
In the fall of 2009, on our local Fox News station, ran a story about a family that
had to make a decision between saving their dog or pay rent / food on the table.
It hit me that I needed to protect my two dogs for any major medical problems that
might arise, and with the economy, having this added protection made more sense
than ever.
The online process with Purina Care was easy, and I signed up for the Major Medical
coverage in November 2009 for both of my Golden Retrievers, Goose & Maverick. Well,
in December 2009, Maverick – who is more active than his sister – started to limp
on his left rear leg. After getting through Christmas and the 2 weeks of house confinement,
it was still the same, so off to my Vet he went for x-rays. I thought it was just
a bruised toe, or something very minor, just more rest and some Rimadyl will get
him back to health. Once my Vet saw the X-rays, she sent me to Dr. Geels at Las
Vegas Referral Center. Within days of the initial visit with Dr. Geels, Maverick
was having TPLO surgery to repair his ACL. I’m so pleased that I had Purina Care
to help bridge the cost of not 1, but 2 ACL repairs within 6 weeks of each other.
I spent about $6900 in vet bills, and Purina Care paid me $5500. This was a life
saver – in many ways. Being able to fix my dog, and not have my checking account
be drained $6900 was wonderful. For as little as a “dollar a day”, gave me protection
to cover my “hairy kid” and allow him to get back to his regular life style of being
a dog.

We had never had pet insurance for our 4 dogs because the various plans seemed so
complicated that I couldn't take the time to make a decision...then I found the
PurinaCare plans. It is so clearly written and comprehensive that we signed up.
We especially liked the high annual allowance that did not otherwise restrict coverage
on a per-incident basis. Just a few months later Katie, our 5-year-old Labrador
Retriever, developed life-threatening complications after being spayed. She had
4 more major surgeries during her 10-day stay in the Michigan State Univerity Veterinary
Teaching Hospital's Critical Care Unit. PurinaCare followed through quickly and
painlessly! I recommend them to everyone.

I got Nanook from the ASPCA last March not knowing that they didn't test for Heartworms.
I took him, my older dog and my cat in for check ups that month, the price surprised
me....I'm on Dr. Jon's E-Mail list and he's always talking up the advantages of
pet insurance I took his advice, and signed up that night. One month later I took
Nanook in for his neutering, SURPRISE! He was heartworm positive. PurinaCare covered
it!!! Last month, he decided to snack on some Aerosol rug cleaner(not toxic, but,
still no fun) They covered that too! I'm sold!

Last year I decided it would be a good thing I got some pet insurance for my 3 year
old dog Sara and Beagle/Lab mix considering she is very active and she is the neighborhood
dog. I chose the accidental insurance which would cover accidents that ended up
resulting and surgeries and whatnot. I pay 23 dollars a month. It was a good thing
I did this, because 3 months later, Sara started limping on her back right leg.
I figured she had jumped to hard or something and it would go away eventually, well
a month later it was still there and she was not active at all so I took her to
the vet and here she had a torn ACL/Cruciate ligament, one of the major ligaments
in the body. The doctor said she would eventually need surgery to repair it. I made
sure to bring the PurinaCare claim form into the vet with me that day to have him
write on it, his recommendation. I mailed it to PurinaCare and they said go ahead
with the surgery when you can, and then mail us the receipts and a pricing list
of everything that they did. We werent quite sure how this happened, he said could
have been from running too hard, jumping in the vehicle and slipping while doing
so, stuff like that. The thing was tho...she needed to lose some weight first. Within
that month of her not being active because of her torn ligament she had gained over
10 pounds! whoa. So we put her on special food and tried to get her weight down.
this took a couple months considering she couldnt do any regular walks with me or
anything because it would her leg even more. Finally she lost the weight- I took
her to the university for her surgery which would cost about 3500 dollars! When
i got there, they took X-rays and found that since she wasnt using the one leg that
was hurt, the left leg was getting all the weight and THAT ligament was torn also!
so we decided to do a bilateral surgery on both of her legs at the same time, that
way we could get them both done for the same price of one instead of doing 1 and
paying 3500 and coming back a year later to pay the same for the other leg. I paid
that price in full with a loan i got from my local bank. I got all the documentation
of everything they did at the university, recipes and item lists. I got home, mailed
all of that into PurinaCare and less than two months later, I got a reimbursement
of 2,395 dollars! that left me with just 1,200 dollars to pay for Saras surgery
which made her just like a brand new puppy again!

My husband and I added a lovable male Bernese Mountain Dog named Big Earl to our
existing dog family after an extensive search. His breeder was adamant that his
new family obtain pet insurance as a stipulation in our purchase/adoption agreement.
As a reputable and conscientious breeder she never wanted to worry that her dog’s
future healthcare would ever be an issue. We wholeheartedly agreed because our pugs
were already covered with another company. We decided that we wanted to research
and find a more comprehensive policy for our new addition and after comparing and
contrasting different plans, reading reviews, etc… we arrived at PurinaCare.
Our initial phone calls to Customer Service were positive and informative and a
friendly representative walked us through the entire application process for Big
Earl. We purchased the policy and then hoped we would never need to use it other
than for the preventative option which we also chose.
Well, not long after purchasing the policy, Big Earl developed a very serious respiratory
infection that required numerous vet visits, medications, treatments, tests and
a late night visit to the animal emergency room
Once he recovered and his treatment was complete, we trepidatiously filed our claim
with PurinaCare not knowing what to expect. We received a written confirmation that
the claim had been received and in a few short weeks a check arrived in the mail.
It was such a relief to see how comprehensively the claim was paid without a lot
of complicated schedule stipulations. The preventative care option also paid quickly
and just as promised. The one deductible and uncomplicated 80% reimbursement rate
makes this policy so easy to comprehend.
Our pets are like family to us and we definitely made the right decision in choosing
PurinaCare. The policy paid for itself with that first illness. We love the feeling
of security knowing that our beloved dog’s health will always be covered.
We highly recommend PurinaCare to any pet owner and have referred it to our vet
and several friends. PurinaCare was an investment in our most precious family member,
Big Earl, and was worth every penny.

When I purchased Oliver in June 2008 from a local breeder, I quickly learned of
his mischievous ways. In the first week, I watched him leap off of furniture and
scamper around the house. He was so daring, and completely fearless, that I thought
maybe insurance was a good idea. I got quotes from a few companies, and after reading
some sample policies and talking with company representatives, I was sold on Purina
Care.
Oliver continued his outrageous stunts through his first year of life (he even learned
how to run up my water bill by turning on the faucet in the kitchen and letting
it run all day long…..), when I decided he would be much happier with a brother.
I purchased Winston from the same breeder (insuring him the same as I had with Oliver)
and brought him home. In the first six weeks I noticed that Winston wasn’t like
Oliver. He was subdued and I often noticed him sneezing.
I took Winston to a local veterinarian, who upon examination, had to be the bearer
of bad news. Winston’s heart did not sound good. He quickly referred us to a cardiologist
in the area. Winston was diagnosed with Hyperthrophic Cardiomyopathy at the age
of 5 months old, and went into congestive heart failure at 8 months old. There is
no cure for what Winston has, but it can be manageable for a period of time, with
daily medication.
With the help of Purina Care, I am able to give Winston everything he could ever
need, without it, I honestly would not be able to afford his treatment. After a
vet visit, I simply fax my receipt and completed Claim Form in, and they send me
a check. They also pay for his monthly prescription medication. Without Purina Care,
Winston wouldn’t be here. Purina Care has given me the opportunity to cherish every
moment spent with my little Winston, and I can never thank them enough.
